Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures PAS

The Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures was established in 2010 through the merger of the Department of Mediterranean Archaeology and the Department of Non-European Countries. Since its inception, the Institute has been implementing a globally unique scientific program consisting of parallel research into ancient and modern civilizations of the Mediterranean region, Africa, and Asia, as well as the search for their cultural and religious connections.

The second pillar of the scientific program is research into contemporary cultures and civilizations of Asia and Africa, especially in relation to religion – Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, and Jainism.

The Institute’s structure includes five departments with highly unique research teams, a rapidly developing Publishing Department and Scientific Documentation Department, as well as two specialized libraries. The Institute is also the publisher or co-publisher of four foreign-language scientific journals. The Institute co-runs the Anthropos Doctoral School.
