Committee on Human Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences

Committee on Human Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences was first established in 1975 on the initiative of Henryk Brokman and Bogusław Halikowski.
The Committee members are specialists representing various scientific disciplines dealing with broadly understood aspects of human physical and mental development, both normal and disturbed by genetic and/or environmental factors.

Periodically, depending on the needs, thematic commissions were created within the Committee, including: Developmental Endocrinology and Metabolism, Developmental Physiology and Psychology, Reproductive, Foetal and Neonatal Physiopathology, Developmental Defects, Paediatric Oncology and Haematology.

During its 48 years of activity, the Committee has undertaken many initiatives important for the health and proper development of children, including the following In 1979, on the initiative of the Committee, treatment of children with growth deficiency using human growth hormone was started. anthropological developmental standards for children in Poland were developed, and newborn screening for congenital hypothyroidism was introduced. In 1994–1995, the Committee conducted an assessment of the state of science in the fields of interest and work of the Committee.
