Polish Academy of Sciences Gdansk Branch

The Gdańsk branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences was established in 1980. Its activities cover the provinces of Kuyavia-Pomerania, Pomerania and West Pomerania.

About the branch

The Branch consists of Polish Academy of Sciences members who conduct their professional activities in this region. The Branch’s activities focus on supporting local scientific initiatives, disseminating knowledge and integrating the scientific community. These objectives are pursued through the Branch’s Scientific Committees, whose areas of interest cover issues relevant to the region and whose members come from various scientific centres. The tasks undertaken by the Branch, either independently or in cooperation with other entities, also include organising conferences, granting patronage, publishing publications and awarding scientific prizes, including the Jan Heweliusz Scientific Prize of the City of Gdańsk.

There are numerous universities and scientific institutions located within the Branch’s area of activity. The President of the Branch participates in the work of the Council of Rectors of the Pomeranian Province, and the members of the Branch and its Presidium participate in integration and scientific events organised by local government, universities and other scientific institutions.
