Polish Academy of Sciences Katowice Branch

The Katowice Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences was established in 1974. It covers the provinces of Silesia and Opole.

The Branch’s activities are carried out through scientific committees. Of particular importance is the Branch’s role in inspiring and coordinating scientific work in the region.

The Branch’s activities are carried out through scientific committees. Of particular importance is the Branch’s activity in inspiring and coordinating scientific work in the region. The Branch’s scope of activity also includes cooperation with universities. Cooperation agreements are in place with the University of Silesia, the Silesian University of Technology and the University of Economics. In order to achieve greater integration with higher education institutions, a Regional Rectors’ Agreement was established, which also includes the president of the Branch. On the initiative of the Branch, work has begun on launching an IT network in the Silesian Province called the Silesian Academic Computer Network, whose work is coordinated by the Founding Council chaired by the president of the Branch.
