Committee on Cultural Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences
The Committee on Cultural Studies was first established in 2004. It is a permanent body of the Academy at the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Its establishment was the culmination of many years of work by Polish cultural studies scholars gathered in major academic centres on the integration of the entire community declaring affiliation with the discipline of cultural studies. The establishment of the Committee was preceded by the formation of the Polish Cultural Studies Association and the inclusion of cultural studies on the list of scientific disciplines. Despite the fact that the core of the Committee in subsequent terms was made up of cultural studies scholars, the Committee was open to representatives of other cultural sciences (cultural sociologists, anthropologists, Slavicists, literary scholars, historians, film scholars, theatre scholars, media scholars, etc.), who joined the Committee as elected members or members of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Young Scholars of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
