Committee on Financial Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences

The Committee was established for the first time on the initiative and thanks to the efforts of Prof. Andrzej Gospodarowicz, PhD, and was a response to the needs of the academic community. One of the Committee’s first actions was to begin work on establishing a separate discipline of finance. Thanks to the Committee’s efforts, in 2010, finance was established as a discipline within economics, which was later transformed into the discipline of economics and finance. Since 2008, the Committee has been organising competitions for outstanding works representing outstanding scientific achievements in the field of finance. Until 2015, the winners were awarded the Committee’s prize, and since 2016, it has been the prize of the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Between 2009 and 2019, the Committee published the scientific journal Finanse, whose mission was to support the development of scientific research, among other things, by presenting new theoretical approaches and developing and promoting knowledge in the field of finance. In 2020, the journal was transformed into a series of monographs entitled ‘Finanse’, which are published annually and enjoy great interest and prestige in the scientific community. Under the patronage of the Committee, many scientific monographs on current topics related to the world of finance have also been published.
