Committee on Historical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences
The Committee on Historical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences was first established by Resolution No. 6/59 of the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences on 5 May 1959. The Committee, composed of the most distinguished representatives of historical science in Poland, was the centre of its organisation and its representative body vis-à-vis the state authorities in the conditions of political supervision and centralised management prevailing at the time. In this role, it dealt with issues such as publishing policy and the planning of major scientific projects (e.g. participation in Polish Science Congresses or international congresses, central research programmes). These activities were carried out primarily by its Presidium, which usually met once a month.
