Ethics in Science
At the Polish Academy of Sciences, Committee on Ethics in Science operates. Its members are elected by the General Assembly of the Polish Academy of Sciences from candidates nominated by the entire scientific and academic community. The Committee provides opinions on matters related to breaches of ethical standards in science by employees of universities, scientific units of the Academy, and research institutes (especially in proceedings conducted by disciplinary committees).
The Committee may initiate cases to the relevant disciplinary committees on its own initiative, recommending conduct of explanatory proceedings. The Committee also promotes standards of ethics and integrity in scientific research.
Code of Ethics for Researches
Researchers must be aware of their particular responsibility. Upholding high ethical standards is essential for maintaining the internal integrity of science, as well as its credibility and social authority. The Code developed by the Committee contains recommendations on the handling of scientific data, research procedures, publishing practices, peer review, and the evaluation of scholarly work.
The General Assembly of the Polish Academy of Sciences, at its 153rd session on 5 December 2024, adopted the updated Code of Ethics for Researchers.
