Centre for Historical Research in Berlin
The CBH of the Polish Academy of Sciences researches and disseminates knowledge about German-Polish relations in the context of European history and culture. It carries out scientific, popular science, didactic and cultural projects, both independently and in cooperation with international partners. It disseminates these through publications, conferences, seminars, exhibitions and an online presence. It emphasises interdisciplinary research in the humanities and social sciences: history, art history, cultural studies, museology, political science, sociology and cultural anthropology. As part of its scientific diplomacy, it strives to internationalise the Polish humanities and bring Poles and Germans closer together.
CBHist.
In 2022, the CBH of the Polish Academy of Sciences launched an educational and historical website, ‘CBHist.’ Polish History. Scientific and Educational Materials. – CBHist. (pan.pl), promoting Polish history to German-speaking pupils, students and teachers. The site integrates content created and co-created by the staff of the CBH PAN, including e-books, podcasts, videos, studies of historical sources and lesson plans for history teaching.
CBH Activities
Since its foundation in 2006 CBH PAN co-shapes Polish-German historical discourse and inspires international initiatives and projects. The unit’s activities have an impact on Polish-German understanding and dialogue, and the research tools and experience developed in popularising knowledge make it possible to go beyond bilateral relations and carry out projects aimed at reflecting on the common past and heritage of the whole of Europe.
