Institute of Fundamental Technological Research Polish Academy of Sciences

The main task of the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IPPT PAN), which has been operating since 1953, is to conduct high-quality research in fields important for global science and technology. The most important areas of research at the Warsaw-based institute are advanced problems in modern mechanics, materials engineering, electronics, biomedical engineering, computer science, and computational science.

Areas
electronics, computer science, materials engineering, mechanics

Seven departments conduct research in the fields of nanotechnology, multi-component and multifunctional materials, micro-, nano- and biomaterials, computational aspects of mechanics, materials engineering, artificial intelligence, biology, bioinformatics, and bioengineering. Other areas of interest include ultrasonic diagnostic methods and smart technologies.

A significant part of the research is also conducted in many branches of basic sciences, such as physics and thermodynamics of continuous media, fluid mechanics, nanophotonics and issues related to interactions between lasers and metal surfaces, as well as mathematics and applied computer science.

The mission of the unit is to create a center for scientific and technical thought, innovative solutions, introducing technological achievements to the Polish scientific and industrial community, as well as initiating and participating in activities in the field of multifunctional materials, polymers, smart materials and technologies, in the application of ultrasound in biomedicine, in microfluidics diagnostics, and in applied computer science and innovative technologies.

The IPPT PAN provides the highest level of education within doctoral studies in the fields of modern technology, mechanics, acoustics, computer science, and biomedical applications. An important aspect is cooperation with industry and international cooperation. The unit is involved in promoting, supporting, and conducting initiatives related to research and technology transfer.
