Mineral and Energy Economy Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences

Since 1986, the Institute of Mineral Resources and Energy Management of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IGSMiE PAN) has been conducting interdisciplinary research on mineral resources and energy management. It provides modern, economical, environmentally friendly, and socially acceptable solutions that contribute to the sustainable development of the country and regions in the field of raw materials and energy, in the following areas: Sources – Technologies – Economics – Market – Environment.

Areas
economics, energy, geophysics, geology, mining and engineering geology, engineering and environmental protection

The unit has three laboratories: Geothermal (off-site in Podhale), Engineering Geophysics, and Environmental Research. In order to expand its scientific and research activities, a modern laboratory and office building with three laboratory complexes is being constructed as part of the Center for Sustainable Raw Materials and Energy Management project: Comprehensive Waste and Biomass Research, Engineering Modeling, and Engineering Geophysics (expansion). The Geothermal Laboratory will also be expanded. The new investment will allow the Institute to expand its research offer, especially in the field of energy management optimization (including renewable energy sources) and sustainable raw material extraction (in line with the circular economy philosophy).

Half of the approximately 120 employees are researchers who publish over 120 scientific articles per year in renowned journals. In the five years preceding 2021, the Institute carried out over 50 research and R&D projects (mostly international) with a total value of over PLN 30 million.
