Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences
Operating since 1967, the Institute of Experimental and Clinical Medicine of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IMDiK PAN) is a unique center among other institutions. The Institute’s uniqueness stems from its combination of basic and clinical research. The Institute’s strategic goal is translational medicine—the application of research results to diagnostics and therapy.

The institute’s research activities cover such fields as physiology, neurobiology, neurochemistry, neurotoxicology, neuropathology, nephrology, oncoimmunology, human disease multiomics, gerontology, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, as well as regenerative medicine and experimental transplantology. The institute’s animal facility breeds laboratory rodents under high SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) health standards and conducts molecular diagnostics of genetically modified animals.
In 2012, the institution was granted the status of a Leading National Scientific Center (KNOW), and in 2017, it was granted the right to use the HR Excellence in Research label. IMDiK PAN belongs to renowned scientific consortia such as Biocentrum Ochota, the Center for Advanced Technologies in Biomedicine, Biotechnology and Applied Informatics, the Center for Preclinical Research and Technology, and BioImaging Poland.
The institute participates in the Bench to Bedside Doctoral Schools of Translational Medicine and Information and Biomedical Technologies of the Polish Academy of Sciences Institutes. Since 2018, IMDiK PAN has been involved in the implementation of the POWER Och!Dok project – a unique interdisciplinary doctoral program in Poland. In the latest parametric evaluation of scientific institutions, the institute was again awarded the high category of A+ in the field of medical sciences.
