Nalecz Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering of Polish Academy of Sciences
Nalecz Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering of Polish Academy of Sciences (IBIB PAN) was established in 1975. It is the largest biomedical engineering research centre in Poland. The research conducted at the Institute combines achievements in engineering and natural sciences, becoming the basis for modern solutions in the field of biomedical technologies.
Areas
biocybernetics and biomedical engineering, materials engineering, medical biology, biotechnology
The mission of the unit is to develop and implement technologies, devices and theoretical tools to support medical diagnostics and treatment. The aim is to achieve a long-term improvement in the quality of life of patients suffering from chronic and lifestyle diseases. The institute publishes the scientific journal ‘Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering’ (Elsevier), which is indexed in bibliographic databases. Research related to projects funded by the National Science Centre (NCN), the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR), the National Agency for Science (NAWA) and the European Research Council (ERC) is carried out here. Work is also carried out as part of numerous national and international collaborations.

IBIB PAN works to educate young scientists within two doctoral schools: Information and Biomedical Technologies (TIB PAN) and Translational Medicine (B2B4 PhD). It is also the leader of the PO WER project entitled ‘Interdisciplinary Doctoral Studies’, ‘Och!DOK’ and a participant in the ERASMUS+ programme. Since 2018, the unit has been among the institutions honoured by the European Commission with the prestigious Excellence in Research HR award.
