The Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences
The Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IBB PAN) has been operating since 1957. The mission of the institute is to conduct basic research in biology, biophysics, biochemistry, and genetics.
Obszary
Over 35 independent research laboratories conduct research on viruses, bacteria, lower fungi, plants, protozoa, nematodes, mammalian cells, and human disease mechanisms. The work of scientists is supported by a number of modern service and research laboratories, which allows the results of research to be used in industry and medicine. The Institute also manages the Polish Antarctic Station, located on King George Island, off the coast of Antarctica.
Here, scientists conduct innovative research, the results of which are published in renowned journals, including the prestigious Cell and Nature. The institute also educates doctoral students at two doctoral schools. Employees share information about the achievements of modern science through popularization activities, including as a partner supporting the activities of the BioCenter for Science Education.
