An important part of the research conducted in Jabłonna concerns metabolism, the utilization of nutrients, and biologically active substances contained in feed. The role played in these processes by symbiotic microorganisms colonizing the digestive tract is also analyzed.

The Institute conducts unique research in the field of neuroendocrinology and endocrinology of growth, development, and reproduction in animals, as well as research on the development of the structure and function of the digestive tract. Recently, the Institute has initiated modern research on the role of the brain-gut-microbiota axis in maintaining homeostasis in animals. Some of the research is conducted in collaboration with partners from the medical community. Laboratory and farm animals are used as models in research on the etiology, prevention, and treatment of various diseases, especially those related to modern lifestyles. Research related to fetal and postnatal programming is also an important area of the Institute’s scientific activity.

IFiŻZ PAN has modern infrastructure and equipment enabling research to be conducted on in vitro models (cell, bacterial, and protozoan cultures), ex vivo models (explant cultures), and in vivo models on poultry, laboratory animals, pigs, sheep, and cows.
