The Polish Academy of Sciences joined the International Coalition for Science, Research, and Innovation in Ukraine. The initiative is the result of joint efforts by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research, UNESCO, and the European Commission, which is to play a coordinating role within the Coalition.

The Coalition’s goal is to address the urgent and long-term needs for rebuilding Ukraine’s research and innovation sector to ensure the country’s modern and sustainable recovery. The Coalition aims to support researchers and innovators, the development of research infrastructure, technology transfer, and reforms in this field. Another objective is to promote science, technology, and innovation as key drivers of Ukraine’s reconstruction.

On June 25–26, 2026, the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC 2026) will take place in Gdańsk, co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine.

Another meeting of the Coalition members will be held as a side-event of the Coneference and will be led by the Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation, Ekaterina Zaharieva from the European Commission.

The goal of URC 2026 is to strengthen international support for the country’s reconstruction and to stimulate investment in the Ukrainian economy. The event will focus on the sectors most affected by Russian aggression: energy, critical infrastructure, and logistics.

The conference will also place particular emphasis on strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities, including through the Security and Defence dimension proposed by Poland, which will be introduced as a new and integral component of URC 2026 in Gdańsk. Strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities is seen as a prerequisite for broad-based reconstruction and long-term development.

URC 2026 will bring together a wide range of stakeholders, including heads of state and government, representatives of partner governments, parliamentarians, representatives of international and financial institutions, business leaders, representatives of local authorities, and civil society organisations. Representatives of the Polish Academy of Sciences will also participate in the conference.
