The General Assembly of the Polish Academy of Sciences adopted the Report on the Academy's statutory activities for 2024
The document presents the Academy’s most important institutional, scientific and organisational achievements over the past year and provides a summary of its role in the Polish system of science and public consulting.
The year 2024 was a period of intensive research work, expert involvement and increased international activity. PAN units participated in groundbreaking projects – from the creation of the first large-scale Polish language model (PLLuM), through innovations in cancer therapy and space research, to expert opinions for the state in the areas of energy security and climate change.
The Academy also continued its mission of supporting the younger generation of researchers, developing doctoral schools, promoting science, and shaping knowledge-based public policies. The report also contains data on the activities of scientific committees, the work of the Academy’s authorities, its organisational structure, popularisation activities, and publications.
Among the important organisational events, it is worth mentioning the entry into force of the new PAN statute, which streamlined the functioning of the Academy, strengthened its autonomy and made its operating mechanisms more flexible. The document reflects the Academy’s concern for transparency, quality and institutional modernity.
The report received a positive opinion from the Audit Committee, which emphasised that the study presents the PAN as an institution with a rich and comprehensive track record, playing a central role in the Polish science system.
