JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship Program for Foreign Researchers FY2026 (Standard Program). JSPS long-term research fellowships

We are opening the call for proposals for long-term (12 to 24 months) research fellowships in Japan (Postdoctoral Fellowship for Foreign Researchers) funded by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).

The JSPS offer is addressed to scientists who received their doctoral degrees no earlier than April 2, 2020. Individuals who have already benefited from a stay in Japan under the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship Program are not eligible to apply for the fellowships.

There are 2 places in the above program dedicated to scholars applying from Poland. Fellows must start their fellowship in Japan during 1 April 2026 – 30 November 2026. For the list of eligible hosts please see: List of eligible host institutes_FY2026

One of the conditions for acceptance of a research stay in Japan is the ‘nomination’ of the Polish Academy of Sciences. To apply for the nomination, please submit applications to the International Cooperation Department of the Polish Academy of Sciences (by email only to aleksandra.wisniewska@pan.pl) by January 26, 2026.

The submitted documentation should include (in English):

  • Application Guidelines + Application Form + Instructions for the application form
  • a letter of acceptance/invitation from the nominee’s prospective host researcher in Japan, stating that he/she accepts the candidate at his/her institution;
  • a letter of reference/recommendation from the candidate’s current or previous supervisor (not from his/her prospective host researcher in Japan);
  • a copy of the nominee’s PhD degree diploma and a letter from the home institution recommending the candidate for the fellowship (document in Polish in a separate file).
