Professor Piotr Warszyński elected President-Elect of the International Association of Colloid and Interface Scientists (IACIS)

Professor Piotr Warszyński, Director of the Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS), has been elected President-Elect of the International Association of Colloid and Interface Scientists (IACIS). His election is a recognition of his outstanding scientific achievements and his commitment to advancing international cooperation in the field of chemical sciences.

International recognition for Polish science

Professor Piotr Warszyński will assume the role of President of IACIS for a four-year term. This election is not only a tribute to his scientific merit but also a testament to the growing standing of Polish scholars within the international scientific community. The IACIS Council has entrusted Professor Warszyński with the responsibility of shaping the strategic directions for the development of colloid and interface science—fields that are of key importance to biotechnology, nanotechnology, environmental protection, and the pharmaceutical industry.

About the President-Elect

Professor Piotr Warszyński graduated from the AGH University of Krakow (formerly the AGH University of Science and Technology) and earned his PhD and habilitation degrees at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He currently serves as Director of the Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry PAS, where he conducts research in areas such as the molecular description of adsorption, surface tension measurements, and encapsulation techniques.

He is the author of numerous scientific publications, an expert in molecular simulations and imaging ellipsometry, and a mentor to young researchers. His studies have significantly contributed to the understanding of matter behavior at phase boundaries—from colloidal particles to complex biological systems.

Professor Warszyński’s international experience includes appointments as visiting professor and research fellow at prestigious institutions such as the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (Germany), McGill University (Canada), University of Montpellier (France), and Kyushu University of Technology (Japan). His dedication to international scientific exchange continues to strengthen the position of Polish research institutions on the global stage.
