The Polish Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society in Joint Dialogue on Science Diplomacy in the European Union – Summary Report

On 17 June 2025, a high-level meeting titled “Science Diplomacy in Poland and its Role in the European Union” took place at the Staszic Palace in Warsaw and online. The event was co-organized by the European Commission and the Polish Academy of Sciences. It brought together political decision-makers, research policy experts, and representatives of the scientific community from Poland and abroad.

One of the key elements of the programme was the presentation of the new report Science Diplomacy in an Era of Disruption, developed by the Royal Society (UK) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. This publication updates the influential 2010 report, adapting its framework to contemporary, rapidly evolving geopolitical dynamics and the growing role of non-state actors in science diplomacy. The European Commission also presented its own new science diplomacy framework.

The meeting concluded with the identification of strategic directions for the development of science diplomacy in Poland, including the creation of training programmes, the engagement of young researchers, the integration of inter-ministerial efforts, and the promotion of science as a tool to support Poland’s and the EU’s interests on the international stage.
