Opis:

Nestor Makhno – a charismatic figure in revolutionary Huliaipole, leader of a powerful peasant insurgency and an opponent of Bolshevik rule, whom the Soviet system subsequently branded a ‘bandit’ and a criminal. His journey can be traced through birth and death records, local government documents, correspondence, minutes, proclamations and materials from 1917–1921. The unique body of documents is preserved in the collections of the State Archives of the Zaporizhzhia Region. At the same time, the memory of Makhno and his movement has become an integral part of the historical identity of modern Huliaipole and the Zaporizhzhia region. Today, these documents find themselves in the midst of a new war. The talk of Olha Yadlovska will also address the town of Huliaipole, which was destroyed by Russian shelling, the rescue of its museum and documentary heritage, and how the State Archive of the Zaporizhzhia Region continues to safeguard historical memory and carry out its work in Zaporizhzhia, near the front line.
